"At Galvan, it all goes back to the slip dress. Since launching the line in 2014 with a small range of no-frills evening gowns, founders Katherine Holmgren, Sola Harrison, Carolyn Hodler, and Anna-Christin Haas have become known for their sleek, ’90s-inspired slips. It’s a good niche to fill; slip dressing was a trend for a while, but now it’s so ingrained in our wardrobes, it’s practically second nature.
That said, if you’ve yet to find your ideal slip dress—and you happen to be in New York!—you’re in luck. Galvan’s first stand-alone store just opened in Soho, lined wall-to-wall with glossy satin slips, sequined halters, and body-skimming jumpsuits you can wear to black-tie galas, your best friend’s destination wedding, or anywhere that calls for getting a little dressed up (without looking fussy). The serene space also functions as Galvan HQ, so any given day you could wander in and end up being styled by one of the designers. “It’s personal,” Harrison said. “We want our customer to feel really special, because even though our prices are low [for eveningwear], these are still investments.”
